Getting Started

Feelmo is an iOS app that uses the heart-rate variability (HRV) read by your Apple Watch to gently watch over your autonomic balance every day. It is not an app that "guesses your emotions." It doesn't decide what's good or bad. Instead, it quietly translates "how well today's you is balanced, compared with your usual self" into the faces of six companions and sets them beside you.

This page walks you through setup and the first few days. At its core, you simply wear your Apple Watch and go about your day. After a usable overnight measurement, your Balance can appear the next morning. Once enough records are available, Premium may show a tendency-based outlook for the next morning; availability and accuracy are not guaranteed.

How Feelmo thinks

Feelmo's principle is that we don't guess your feelings, but watch over how settled you are. It starts from the premise that the mind cannot be read, and instead watches over the "shifts" in how your body is balanced, compared with your own baseline. It is built on top of the shared platform Lumo Core.

Requirements

  • An iPhone running iOS 17.0 or later
  • Reading your Balance score requires an Apple Watch. Your HRV and heart rate during sleep are recorded while you're wearing the Apple Watch
  • 11 languages are supported: Japanese, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Thai, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. The display language follows your device's settings (for details, see Supported Languages)

You can start without an Apple Watch

Some features work with just your iPhone, such as breathing exercises and reviewing your mood log. But your mood log is filled in automatically by your Apple Watch, so the automatic recording of your balance and mood needs an Apple Watch. You can start with breathing and the like first, and add an Apple Watch later.

Setup at a glance

1. Download Feelmo from the App Store

Get Feelmo from the App Store (coming soon). After installing, open the app and follow the on-screen guidance. You can start using it right away, with no account registration required.

2. Allow access to HealthKit

The first time you launch the app, Feelmo explains and requests the HealthKit (Health app) access needed for core features such as Balance. If you later turn on an optional feature, it may explain and request an additional HealthKit item needed by that feature.

  • You can choose permissions item by item. It's fine to leave out only the ones you'd rather not share (the card for that item simply won't appear)
  • You can revoke or change permissions at any time from your iPhone, in "Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Feelmo"
  • For details, see Connecting Apple Watch and HealthKit

Your data stays on your device, as a rule

HRV-derived data and your balance are processed on-device as a rule. There are no automatic uploads. You can delete it at any time. For details, see Data and Privacy.

3. At night, just wear your Apple Watch to sleep

Balance is read most reliably during sleep, and while you're sitting quietly and at ease. Wrist sensors are less accurate while you're moving your body, so Feelmo cherishes the signals from your calm, still moments.

When you wear your Apple Watch to sleep at night, the next morning's balance is born from the heart-rate variability measured during your sleep. No special actions are needed. You just go about your day as usual.

Your first morning

In the morning, when you open the app, the Home (Today) tab greets you with one of the six companions—Genki (lively), Odayaka (calm), Futsuu (steady), Fuan (uneasy), Panku (overloaded), or Tsukare (worn out)—who gently tells you how your body was balanced last night.

On Home, you can see things like:

  • The balance gauge … shows your current balance, with an aura that reflects how far you are from your baseline
  • Vital sign cards … the latest values for HRV, resting heart rate, and sleep. These are "everyday signals," not diagnoses (more detailed vitals such as wrist temperature, respiratory rate, and blood oxygen (SpO₂) live on the Well-being tab)
  • Stress level, and your current HRV and state

There's no need to fret over the numbers themselves. To start with, simply receiving "which companion today is" is enough.

Read the score against "your own baseline"

Your balance is not a number to compare with other people. It's most meaningful when you look at the difference from your usual self. During the first few days, Feelmo is still learning your baseline, so the display may wobble a little. For details, see Your Balance score and How baselines work.

How your Balance score works (in brief)

Your Balance score (0–100) is calculated from the Apple Watch-derived HRV (heart-rate variability / the fluctuation in R-R intervals). At its heart are multiple HRV-derived clues, measurement quality, and movement from your own baseline. Lower tends to mean "more unsettled," and higher tends to mean "more balanced." Rather than putting this number front and center, Feelmo translates it into the closest of the six faces and quietly sets it beside you each day.

What you can do in the first few days

Once setup is done, we recommend getting comfortable with Feelmo along the following flow. The features are organized into five tabs (for a detailed map, see How to read the screens).

  • Home … today's balance gauge, vital signs, stress, and your recent balance-change (the colorful look-back at your moods lives on the Trends and Mood Log tabs)
  • Journal … your mood is auto-recorded each day, ready to look back on in a calendar and a graph — the mood itself is final, but you can add a casual word to any day whenever you like
  • Breathing … guided breathing (six techniques) for when you want to calm down, or to lift yourself up (Breathing Sessions)
  • Trends … the flow of your balance, autonomic state, and HRV, from days to years
  • Well-being … sleep, sunlight, activity, and their association patterns with Balance on one screen; it does not prove an effect or causation

When you want to watch over yourself more deeply

On the current Free plan, today's Balance and state, the six faces, the Mood Log (calendar), breathing (all six techniques), today's habits, and the weekly view are available at no charge.

When enough records are available and you want a tendency-based outlook for the next morning, there is Feelmo Premium. Premium unlocks the condition forecast (based on patterns in your own records, with no guarantee of availability or accuracy), long-term trends, habit association patterns that compare days with and without a habit without proving an effect or causation (Habit Association Patterns), a Kokoro Report designed as a reference summary for conversations, a yearly review, and up to a year of history. There is no need to rush in; begin with a few mornings on the Free plan.

This is not a medical diagnosis

Feelmo is not a medical device, and it is not intended for diagnosis or treatment decisions. Vital signs and your balance are "everyday signals" and do not determine the presence or absence of illness. If you have symptoms that concern you, always consult a medical professional.
